IV Euro-Asian Symposium "Trends in MAGnetism" EASTMAG-2010

EASTMAG – 2010 continues the tradition of important scientific symposiums on topical problems of magnetism and magnetic materials which consolidate scientists from Russia and other countries working in these fields. This series of symposiums started in the Institute of Metal Physics UB RAS (the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia) in 2001. The previous III EASTMAG symposium took place in the city of Kazan, Russia, in 2007. The EASTMAG-2010 Symposium is devoted to the centennial anniversary of the outstanding Russian scientist academician S.V.Vonsovsky, who worked in the field of magnetism.

The city of Ekaterinburg (http://www.ekaterinburg.tv/) was found in 1723. Now it is the capital of the Sverdlovsk region. With the population of 1.324 million of people the city is one of the greatest industrial centers in Russia. Ekaterinburg is the scientific and cultural capital of the Ural Federal Region. The city is located near the Europe-Asia geographical border. The cultural program of Symposium will include both the city tours and visits to numerous museums and theaters and also excursions to the picturesque environments of Ekaterinburg including the Europe-Asia geographical border.

Practical Seminar

EASTMAG Practical Seminar on Magnetic Force Microscopy
(organized in cooperation with the NTMDT Company).

The NTMDT Company (http://www.ntmdt.com/) and EASTMAG Organizing Committee offer the participants of the Symposium the unique opportunity to probe the topmost level of modern magnetic nanoscale imaging techniques.
The goal of the Practical Seminar is to give the participants the basic knowledge about the principles and applications of Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM). For this purpose the tutorial lecture of Prof. V.L.Mironov (Institute for Physics of Microstructures RAS, Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia) "Magnetic force microscopy of ferromagnetic nanostructures" is included in the schedule of Monday, June 28, session. Then the participants can have a look at the NTEGRA Prima Scanning Probe Microscope with MFM capabilities. During one hour tutorial practical course for the group of 5-10 people the participants can see all stages of MFM measurements using the standard samples.
The participants will also have the possibility to make the measurements on their own samples. These measurements will be performed under support of the NTMDT qualified personnel.

The instrument.
Scanning Probe Microscope NTEGRA Prima http://www.ntmdt.com/device/ntegra-prima.

Requirements for samples.
Outer diameter - till 12 cm.
Height - till 2 cm.
Surface roughness - less than 100 nm at the surface of 10 by 10 mkm square.
Thin magnetic films: thickness of a film above 15 nm.
Magnetic particles at a substrate: diameter of particles above 50 nm.

How to attend.
At the registration desk of EASTMAG please register for tutorial practice or for making measurements with your sample (you will be informed about the date and time).
