Scientific and educational center "The Higher Academic School of Metal Physics UrFU-IMP UB RAS"

The Scientific and Educational Center ”Higher academic school of Metal Physics at UrFUIMP UB RAS” was formed by the order № 14/338/03 on May 13, 2011 at the status of a joint structural subdivision of UrFU and IMP UB RAS as a unincorporated entity and includes the research and educational centers (SECs):  

  • SEC “Promising structural materials” based on the Institute of Materials Science and Metallurgy, UrFU and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Popov A.A. and Pushin V.G., respectively);  
  • SEC “Monitoring and diagnostics of advanced materials” based on the Physics and Technology Institute, the Ural Federal University and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Kortov V.S. and Kostin V.N., respectively);  
  • SEC “Condensed Matter Physics” based on the Physics and Technology Institute, UrFU and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Povzner A.A. and Kravtsov E.A., respectively);  
  • SEC“Magnetism and Magnetic Materials” based on the Institute of Natural Sciences,  UrFU and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Vas'kovskii V.O. and Baranov N.V., respectively);  
  • SEC “Spintronics Nanotechnologies” based on the SEC “Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies”, UrFU and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Weinstein I.A. and Milyaev M.A., respectively);  
  • SEC “Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics” based on the Physics and Technology Institute, the Ural Federal University and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Mazurenko V.G. and Lyapilin I.I., respectively);
  • SEC “Radioactive Materials” based on the Physics and Technology Institute, the Ural Federal University and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Ivanov V.Yu. and Kuznetsova T.V., respectively).
  • SEC “Electronic properties of materials” based on the Institute of Natural Sciences, the Ural Federal University and IMP UB RAS (Heads: Pamyatnykh E.A. and Okulov V.I., respectively).

The Scientific and Educational Center also comprises pre-existing branches of 2 departments, hosted in the Ural State Polytechnic University and 2 Research and Education Centers (SEC “IMP UB RAS - the Ural State Polytechnic University” and the SEC “IMP UB RAS - the Ural State University”). The SEC makes better use of human and experimental resources to coordinate joint research projects in the field of condensed matter physics and train scientific staff. The proportion of the researchers engaging in teaching activities is 19%. The Institute has a license for the right to conduct educational activity in 6 specialties.
