Corresponding member of the RAS Aleksey Viktorovich Makarov

MAKAROV Alexey Viktorovich graduated from the Ural Polytechnic Institute in 1982. He has been working at the Academy of Sciences since 1983, from 1986 to 2000 – in the physical metallurgy laboratory of the Institute of Metal Physics, from 2000 to 2014 – the head of structural materials science laboratory at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Ural Branch of RAS. A.V. Makarov is a head of the department of materials science and the laboratory of mechanical properties of the Institute of Metal Physics since 2014. A.V. Makarov is a doctor of technical sciences and professor of the Ural Federal University.

The research interests of A.V. Makarov:

• study of structural mechanisms for increasing wear resistance and hardening of metal alloys;
• development of thermal, deformation and combined treatments;
• using of non-destructive electromagnetic methods for certification of wear-resistant and high-strength structures.

A.V. Makarov made a special contribution to the creation of nanostructuring friction treatments and methods of hardening and modifying surface by laser hardening. The developments are used in the production of drilling and punching tools, in technologies for laser and friction hardening of high-wear mechanical engineering products, in technologies for obtaining wear-resistant composite coatings for metallurgical equipment.

A.V. Makarov is the author of over 550 publications, 3 monographs, 3 textbooks, the International Tribology Encyclopedia, 12 patents and inventor's certificates.  The complete list of works by A.V. Makarov can be found on the personal page.
