He graduated from the Ural Polytechnic Institute in 1982, the Academy of Sciences works since 1983, from 1986 to 2000 in the laboratory of the physical metallurgical science of the Institute of physics of metals, from 2000 to 2014 − head of the laboratory of constructional material science Institute of engineering science UB RAS. Since 2014 − head of the Department of materials science and the laboratory of mechanical properties of IMP. Doctor of technical Sciences. Professor of the Ural Federal University (development and reading course "Nanomaterials and nanotechnology" at the Department of metallurgy), member of the dissertation Council of the Ural Federal University, chair of the SAC at the Department of heat treatment and physics of metals, Ural Federal University. Member of the editorial boards of the journals "metal. Technology, equipment, tools and Diagnostics, Resource and Mechanics of materials and structures".

Area of scientific interests – the study of structural mechanisms to improve wear resistance and hardening of metallic alloys by the creation of metastable and nanocrystalline states, development on this basis of effective methods of thermal, deformation and combined treatments, the use of electromagnetic non-destructive methods for the evaluation of wear-resistant and high-strength structures, for the control of wear resistance and mechanical properties of steels and alloys. Made a special contribution in establishing the foundations nanostructurally friction treatments and methods of hardening and surface modification by laser hardening and cladding. The formulation used in the manufacture of drilling and punching tools, technologies of laser hardening and frictional wear of engineering products. The author of over 400 published works, 2 monographs, 2 manuals, International encyclopedia of tribology, 9 Russian Federation patents and certificates of authorship for inventions.
